Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning is a radio show known for pranking unsuspecting victims. The show has a “phone tap” section, where the hosts disguise themselves as different people and call individuals to make ridiculous statements or demands.
In one of their episodes, they target Chase, a penny pincher who doesn’t like to spend and is in need of garage door repair service. Chase is concerned that the repair company will take advantage of the situation and charge him for more parts and repair services than he’s actually needed.
The episode opens with Evan, the repairman, making his first call to Chase and letting him know that his garage door cable is damaged and needs to be replaced. He’s done a 24-point inspection and found that the door cable is fraying. Chase, concerned about the repair cost, is happy to hear that it is relatively cheap; a fictitious amount that coming in at only $18.
Evan (the repairman) continues with the repair work and suggests to repair the garage door opener, which is working well but is showing signs of age. The new opener installation will cost Chase $600. When Chase starts to question Evan, he than tells Chase that the garage door opener has just died and no longer working. Then he proceeds to say that he’s just kidding while they both laugh and Evan agreeing to repair the pulley.
The first call ends and on the second call to Chase, Evan says that he’s finished the pulley repair but the garage door opener is really struggling to lift the garage door. Chase responds that he doesn’t have the money and doesn’t want to have it done. Evan then suggests to replace the battery for around $130. Chase hesitantly agrees and the call ends.
In the third call to Chase, Evan claims that the existing battery is actually working so there’s no need to replace it, what makes Chase very happy. This happiness is short-lived however, as Evan tells Chase that there’s another problem with his garage door. As Chase is getting fed up with Evan, he tells him that the garage door is now moving too fast and is having problems with the safety sensors, which makes it go up and down constantly. Evan suggests to replace the sensors and garage door opener for around $600. Chase then says that he thinks he’s getting scammed, and Evan responds that he’s not; it’s just bad luck and an old garage door system.
As Chase starting to get mad, Evan reveals is identity and that his name is actually Jose, working for a morning radio program, and Chase just got pranked! This hilarious bit is just one of the many on Brooke & Jeffrey in the morning. If you’re worried about being scammed for your garage door repair, hire a licensed garage door repair company and avoid fake businesses so you don’t end up like Chase.
