Garage Door Installation in Orange County

Champion Garage Door provides garage door installation and replacement services in Orange County and select South Los Angeles communities. Our trained and certified installers work with sectional and one-piece garage doors for existing homes and new construction, including standard, low-headroom, high-lift, and other specialty setups.

We handle projects all the way through. We coordinate ordering and delivery, removal of the existing system, installation, and final testing as a single-source, turnkey service.

If a garage door needs to be replaced right away, we can come out the same day, get the garage door specifications, start the process, and secure the garage if needed. Standard garage doors may also be installed the same day in an emergency, depending on our schedule and product availability.

    Garage Opening, Headroom & Backroom

Garage dimensions and site conditions vary from one structure to another. Before the garage door and hardware are ordered, we measure the opening width and height as well as the available sideroom, headroom and backroom.

We also review the surrounding space where the tracks, spring system, brackets, and opener will be installed and the framing that will support the system to confirm there is enough clearance and suitable support.

Support beams, piping, electrical wiring, ceiling restrictions, cabinets, shelving, and other features can interfere with the installation. When space is limited or these features leave too little clearance, the project may require a low-headroom or rear-mounted spring system, changes to the track setup, or modifications to the garage.

Choosing a Garage Door for the Installation

A few questions can help narrow the choices:

If you already picked a garage door or are deciding between a few, send us the models or specifications. We can help you compare what changes in price, lead time, hardware, and installation before you order.

See our Garage Doors page to compare materials, insulation, styles, and other options.

    Project Scope, Materials & Pricing

Installation agreements that are too complex can lead to confusion, rework, and unnecessary change orders. We keep the scope detailed and straightforward.

Our written scope provides an itemized breakdown of what is being supplied and completed for the project, including the garage door and hardware, removal and haul-away of the existing system, opener work, labor, any required framing work, warranty coverage, and the contract price.

Anything not included in the agreed scope is identified as well. If the project requires specialty hardware, modifications, or work outside the approved installation scope, the additional work and price are documented in a written change order for approval before that work begins.

    Our Installation Process

From measuring the garage to the final walkthrough.

    01

    Measure & Plan

We measure the opening, headroom, backroom, and surrounding space and review any conditions that can affect the installation.

    02

    Review & Approve

We go over the garage door, hardware, installation scope, price, warranty, and any project requirements before the order moves forward.

    03

    Order & Schedule

We coordinate the garage door order, delivery, and installation date, along with any required project or HOA documentation.

    04

    Install, Test & Review

We remove the existing system when applicable, install and balance the new door, set up the opener, complete final testing, and walk you through the finished system.

Permitted Projects & HOA Coordination in Orange County

When the garage door is part of a permitted remodel or new-construction project, Champion can provide our contractor license information and the garage-door documentation needed for our portion of the work. We coordinate with the homeowner or builder so the installation fits the project schedule and any required contractor information is provided when needed.

HOA approval may also be required for garage door installations in some Orange County communities. When it applies, we can provide the door specifications, product information, finish details, and contractor information needed for the architectural review.

Getting these requirements worked out before installation helps avoid last-minute changes and delays with the garage door work or final inspection.

    Garage Door Installation Cost

Garage door installation costs in Orange County vary by the size and construction of the door, hardware, and work involved. The ranges below provide a general cost reference for common installations.

    Garage DoorInstallation LaborTypical Installed Price
    Basic steel, single-car$300–$600$1,100–$1,800
    Basic steel, double-car$400–$700$1,600–$2,300
    Insulated steel, single-car$300–$600$1,300–$2,200
    Insulated steel, double-car$400–$700$2,000–$3,000
    Steel-back insulated, single-car$350–$650$1,500–$2,800
    Steel-back insulated, double-car$450–$800$2,400–$5,000

Installation labor covers a standard replacement: removal and haul-away of the existing door, installation of the new tracks, hardware and spring system, setup and balance of the door, and final operating tests.

Typical installed price includes the garage door, standard hardware, and installation labor. Low-headroom or other specialty configurations, framing work, garage door opener installation, and work outside a standard replacement can change the total.

    Installation, Setup & Final Testing

When the garage door arrives, we make sure we have the right door and hardware and look everything over for defects before we start the installation.

A new garage door has to be properly assembled, aligned, and adjusted before it operates as intended. Poor setup can cause binding, excessive noise, irregular movement, and premature wear.

After the new door is installed, we calibrate the spring system and check the door independently of the opener for balance and smooth movement through its full travel. Track alignment, cables and drums, hardware, weather seals, and supporting attachments are checked, and adjustments are made where needed.

If a new or existing garage door opener is part of the project, it is then connected and set up for the installed door. Travel limits, safety sensors, controls, and safety-reversal operation are tested in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable UL 325 safety requirements before the completed system is turned over for use.

Final Review, Warranty & Service After Installation

Before the job is closed out, we show the homeowner how to operate the garage door and opener, including the controls, safety features, and emergency release.

We also cover the manufacturer-recommended care for the installed door and opener, routine checks the homeowner can perform, and components that should be serviced by a trained technician. We answer any questions and leave the work area clean.

Champion provides warranty coverage on the labor and services we perform, with the applicable coverage depending on the work involved and products supplied. Manufacturer warranty coverage for the garage door, opener, accessories, and individual components is separate and varies by product.

If follow-up work is needed after installation, Champion’s in-house team handles service for issues covered by our warranty and remains available for future adjustments, repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the installed system.

      Frequently Asked Questions

How should I prepare my garage before installation?
Move vehicles out of the garage and keep at least 12 feet inside the garage clear from the door opening. We’ll point out any cabinets, shelving, lighting, storage racks, or other fixtures that need to be moved before installation.
Should I be home or on-site during the installation?
No. You do not need to be there, but we do need access to the garage and installation area at the scheduled time. If you will not be on-site, let us know in advance how we’ll access the garage so the installation can begin as scheduled.
Can I use my existing opener when installing a new garage door?
Yes, if the opener is compatible with the new garage door and meets California’s battery-backup requirement. Under SB 969, a replacement residential garage door cannot be connected to an existing opener that does not have a compliant battery backup.
Can you install a new garage door on an older garage?
Yes. Older garages may need framing work, specialty track hardware, or a different setup to accommodate a new garage door. Framing or specialty hardware may be necessary when a one-piece swing-up door is replaced with a sectional door. During the initial visit, we measure the opening, check the framing and available clearance, and let you know what can be installed and whether any changes or additional work are needed.
Can a garage door be installed with limited headroom?
Yes, in most cases. Low-headroom tracks, rear-mounted spring systems, and other configurations can be used when there is not enough space for a standard setup. We measure the headroom and backroom first so we can determine what door and hardware setup will work in the space available.
Do I need HOA approval before my garage door is installed?
Some Orange County HOAs require approval for garage door replacement or installation. When approval is required, we can provide door specifications, product information, finish details, and contractor information for the review.
Should I use high-lift tracks if my garage has a tall ceiling?
No, not just because the ceiling is tall. High-lift tracks are used when there is a reason to move the horizontal tracks higher, such as for a vehicle lift or another planned use of the overhead space. A high-lift system often increases the installation cost and future maintenance costs.
Can the garage door be installed before the rest of a remodel is finished?
The garage door is usually installed near the end of the project. It can be installed earlier if the opening, framing, floor, and surrounding construction are ready for the garage door system.
What happens if the new garage door or hardware arrives damaged or incorrect?
If anything is damaged, incorrect, or different from what was ordered, we address the issue and make sure the correct garage door and hardware are supplied.
